There's a big carnival on now. Everyone is unloading their profound indignation about Indian residential Schools in Canada and flaunting their solidarity with survivors. This is the same Canada which indignantly condemned so called Uyghar human rights violations in China. Let's sum this matter up: Canadian indignation is aroused by things which happened long ago or which happen very far away. A Canadian human rights crime results in an emotional "I'm so sorry" , preferably with a dainty hankie close by with which to tristily dab one's eyes. A foreign "human rights violation" summons up hearty exclamations of pious shock and macho talk about nasty sanctions. The problem in Canada is not cruel Christians. The problem in Canada is Canadians. Innocent Canadians who "had no idea", Canadians who are shocked and then mouth off platitudes about "never again" or "lest we forget" which safely insulate them from the stench of residential school washrooms or the shame of secret cementaries. Where did all these priest and monk perverts come from? There were not born from the ear of Venus. They were unloaded on to the system by parents and relatives who knew there was something not quite right with them . Don't blame Churches for this, blame the parents who gave their worst fruits to the church in the hopes that maybe the church could straighten them out. Local German residents were taken on a tour of concentration camps just after the war. They had their noses rubbed in their personal filth. They were forced to be witnesses the evil they had allowed to happen. As we run after the Canadian religious organisations closest to the residential kill floors let us remember that our ancestors, much like in Germany, did nothing, they did not even a prayer for the victims. Such prayers would have implied guilt. Everyone from Cardinals right down to door keepers pretended that nothing was happening. In an absurd sort of way they thought they could transform evil by blindness into goodness. But now the cat is out of the bag and suddenly hand wringing, loud sobbing and finger pointing abounds. I question the sincerity of this present hub bub and I question our commitment to see that this never happens again. This commitment is less likely than drinkable tap water on the reservations. Jesus is not on trial here; we are, Canadian values are, and hypocrisy is omnipresent. First churches were shut down because of Covid 19. And the government made clear that it was the government which controlled the churches Now government officials will hunt down crippling indemnities from churches to compensate "survivors". I smell a hidden agenda. Government wants to close Churches. Soon they will even get rid of mothers; they will be replaced with "child bearing parents". No God , no Church, no more motherhood or family; just an all caring government manipulating and controling masses of individuals. Canadian values? No thanks! I pass.
